Description
This is a choice, brilliant uncirculated, and the last silver,
"10 Sen"
from the
"Empire"
of Japan.
This type was only struck from 1913 to 1917 or Year 2 through 6 of the reign of Taisho or Yoshihito. He was Emperor from 1912 until 1926.
This coin is from Year 6. That was 1917. This is the last date the
“Ten Sen”
, or one tenth of a Yen, like a dime to a dollar, was struck in silver. Beginning in 1920 the denomination went through copper-nickel, nickel, aluminum bronze and finally aluminum. They were last coined for circulation in 1945.
Shogunate Japan had been
"opened"
by Commodore Perry in 1854 and since then had jettisoned the Shogunate, adopted a parliamentary form of government and become an
"Empire"
. At this time, during World War I, Japan was fighting Germany with the other allied nations.

The Coin:
A mostly white, brilliant uncirculated specimen with some light color. It displays flashy cartwheel luster and has very few marks. This one got put away early and stayed protected. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
