    Description

For your consideration, I offer a refillable #6 dry cell battery with antique label. They were also sometimes known as “A” dry cell batteries.
These batteries were commonly used in radios, telephones, lanterns, doorbells, clocks, toy motors, Christmas lights, and many other devices dating from the late 1890’s through the 1960’s. For those of you that want to fire-up a long dormant device that used these batteries, this is for you!
The batteries are hand-made from ABS plastic tubing with an ABS top. Positive and negative brass poles with knurled thumb nuts like the original batteries are powered by two modern D-cell batteries that are completely refillable. The two D-cell batteries are wired in parallel configuration and deliver exactly 1.5 volts per battery, just as the original #6 batteries did.
I have carefully peeled the labels from original batteries, scanned them, corrected them in photoshop, and reproduced them to go on the outside of the ABS plastic tube shell. I have over 30 different labels available - please see my other auctions. The battery label in the pictures is the one you will receive.
Please note: All batteries are hand-made. There WILL be variation from the pictures. The labels do have an antique look to them and are not perfect - they are scans of original battery labels with the imperfections that were common with the age of the original battery. The bottom of the ABS tube does not have a cover as it’s not needed. If you want a cover, please let me know and I can produce one for an extra charge. If you need more than one battery, please let me know. I will work with you to combine shipping based on your location. I make these batteries as they are ordered. Lead time for production could be up to 10 days. If you are looking for something faster, please inquire and I will do my best to improve on the lead time. I ship in a double-padded envelope for quantities of 1 and 2 batteries. I do not include the modern D-Cell batteries.
If you a looking for a museum-quality reproduction #6 dry cell battery, these are likely not for you. HOWEVER, if you are looking for a reproduction that looks the part as per the pictures and functions as the original #6 dry cell batteries did, this is for you!
    Thanks for looking!
