    Description

Conrad "Ben" Baker of the US Counterinsurgency Support Office (CISO) personally designed the indigenous hunting knife for the covert Studies and Observations Group (SOG) in the mid-1960s. SOG ran numerous clandestine "over-the-fence" recon missions into Cambodia, Laos, and North Vietnam itself, until they were officially disbanded in May 1972. The SOG knife featured a bowie blade, stacked leather washer handle, and brass guard and pommel, and was absolutely "sterile" (unmarked) to allow for complete deniability. SOG knives and other related US edged weapons from the Vietnam War have been of great interest to collectors for decades, leading Michael Silvey to write an authoritative reference book on the subject in 2016. This "SOG KNIVES" US VIETNAM SPECIAL FORCES KNIFE DAGGER BOLO RANDALL REFERENCE BOOK is in near mint, unread condition, with only some light scattered storage wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the book is in near mint shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts an elegantly illustrated dust jacket over hardcovers, and sports 124 pages full of descriptive text, period pictures, and color photographs of SOG 7" "Recon" knives, "fat guard" SOGs, numbered SOGs, 5th Special Forces SOGs, "sterile" SOGs, iron guard SOGs, the correct scabbards and sharpening stones, presentation bolos and Fairbairn-Sykes style daggers, square tipped machetes, Randalls, Gerbers, and Eks, Parsons knives, and much, much more. A beautiful example of a "SOG KNIVES" US VIETNAM SPECIAL FORCES KNIFE DAGGER BOLO RANDALL REFERENCE BOOK. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
